I lead with my left hand and naturally go round my toms from right to left, high to low - that's what my lefty setup really gives me, and what I can't do naturally and easily when I play a right-handed kit.
I have spent most of my life doing this, and it works. The only downside is that some grooves may cause you some co-ordination problems when you go from one hand to the other, but once you've worked through that it'll free you up even more.

There are no rules when setting up a drum set. As far as I know no one has yet invented a pedal that can be reversed. With the right handed suggestion, is bass drum speed really as important as movement and control around the kit which would be sacrificed using a right handed kit?
